Former Assin Central MP and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has expressed confidence in securing victory in the party’s presidential primary ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to journalists after his vetting on Tuesday, September 23, Mr. Agyapong said he was fully prepared and believes the committee recognized his readiness to serve as president.
“I was prepared. I believe I answered all the questions and they know I’m ready to be president of this country,” he stated.
Describing the session as cordial, he explained that the committee sought clarity on his vision for Ghana and motivation for seeking the party’s leadership. “They really wanted to know why I want to be president and my vision for the country, as well as the party. So I enumerated a couple of points on how I’m going to address some problems,” he said.
Highlighting his loyalty and track record within the NPP, Mr. Agyapong reaffirmed his commitment to adopting the Asian development model to drive Ghana’s economic transformation. Citing examples from South Korea, India, and Dubai, he explained that governments in those countries partnered with private entrepreneurs through targeted loans and resources to grow global brands like Daewoo, Hyundai, and Samsung.
“Now, what they do is that the government partners with the individual, the private sector. So they will wean themselves off when you finish paying the loan. Then it becomes your business,” he explained.
He added that replicating this model would help Ghana overcome capital constraints and empower local businesses to thrive. “In business, the most difficult part is the capital. So if the government supports you to get the capital and you run it well, you become a millionaire,” Mr. Agyapong concluded.
