Patrick Akoto

Respected Ghanaian football administrator Patrick Akoto has been handed a new international assignment, taking up the role of Assistant General Coordinator at the ongoing WAFU B U-17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.

Stationed in Yamoussoukro, Akoto is overseeing crucial aspects of match coordination at the competition, which doubles as the qualification pathway to the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

He was on duty during Saturday’s opening games, supervising both the hosts Côte d’Ivoire’s clash with Niger and Ghana’s spirited 1–1 draw with Togo, despite the Black Starlets being reduced to 10 men. His next assignment will be Sunday’s fixture between Burkina Faso and Benin.

Akoto currently serves as Senior Communications Manager at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), having previously established himself at Medeama SC, where he spent over a decade as Communications Director. His leadership helped position Medeama’s communications department as one of the most professional in the country, while the club enjoyed one of its most successful eras—winning two FA Cups, two Super Cups, the Ghana Premier League title, and making history in continental competitions.

Beyond his club achievements, Akoto has held key roles with the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), the Ghana Premier League Clubs, and the Ghana Olympic Committee, consistently earning recognition for his organizational acumen and strategic vision.

His appointment to the WAFU B tournament further enhances his growing profile within regional and continental football administration, underlining his reputation for professionalism, attention to detail, and deep knowledge of the game’s operations.
