The National DRIP Secretariat has sanctioned the Korley Klottey and Accra Metropolitan Assemblies (AMA) for misusing District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment despite repeated warnings.
National DRIP Coordinator, Edwin Nii Lantey Vandepuye, led the operation, impounding a backhoe and payloader that were being used for refuse collection in unauthorized areas.
On September 21, 2025, Mr. Vandepuye encountered the assemblies using the equipment at Tudu and the 31st December Market around midnight and ordered them to stop.
However, a follow-up inspection the next morning revealed the machines were still in use at Kantamanto and UTC, prompting him to seize the keys to prevent further abuse.
He stressed the importance of following regulations governing DRIP equipment usage, cautioning other Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) against similar misuse.
Assemblies without immediate need for the equipment, he said, should lease it to those with urgent road repair requirements. A realignment of allocation is also planned to ensure fair distribution.
Mr. Vandepuye reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring that DRIP equipment is used strictly for its intended purpose of improving Ghana’s road infrastructure.
He cited a similar case in Obuasi, where a DRIP machine was also impounded for unauthorized use, as evidence of the programme’s zero-tolerance policy.
