SOCODEVI leads beachfront cleanup on 2025 World Cleanup Day

As part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability and curb the impact of climate change, SOCODEVI led a large-scale cleanup exercise along the beachfront, urging Ghanaians to adopt sustainable waste management practices to protect the environment and mitigate the effects of climate change.

The initiative was organized in collaboration with the Green Africa Youth Organization, CAMFED Association Accra, Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, and Youth Mappers of the University of Ghana.

It sought to address the persistent challenge of poor solid waste disposal and encourage eco-friendly lifestyles.

Principal Coordinator for SOCODEVI, Martha Rainer Opoku-Mensah, called on the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly to provide waste bins and designated collection points along the shoreline to reduce plastic pollution.

“Protecting our environment begins with each of us. We must rethink how we handle waste if we want to safeguard our future,” she stated.

Mabel Naa Amorkor Laryea, Project Coordinator for the Green Africa Youth Organization, also warned of the dangers of marine pollution, noting its negative impact on fishing activities and seafood safety.

She urged communities, local authorities, and individuals to work together to curb waste entering the ocean.

SOCODEVI, a Canadian NGO, reiterated its commitment to improving living conditions globally, with environmental sustainability remaining a key priority.
