Barring any last-minute change, the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) will today, September 19, 2025, begin an indefinite strike.
The action is expected to affect members across Technical and Public Universities, the Ghana Library Authority, and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB).
According to the union, the strike has become necessary following government’s failure to address long-standing concerns of non-teaching staff despite exhausting all laid-down procedures.
In a statement signed by General Secretary King James Azortibah, TEWU-TUC said it has exercised patience and restraint but warned that any attempt to intimidate members would amount to an unfair labour practice.
The union recalled that on September 8, it served official notice of the strike, citing persistent delays in finalising and signing Conditions of Service agreements. It noted that repeated engagements and follow-ups with management and relevant authorities had yielded no results, leaving members frustrated.
