GTEC revokes accreditation for 3 programmes at Cape Coast-based institute

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has revoked the accreditation of three postgraduate programmes at the Institute of Development and Technology Management (IDTM) in Cape Coast.

The affected programmes — PhD, MPhil, and MA in Development Studies — were originally approved to run only as regular weekday courses. However, GTEC discovered that the institute had repackaged them into part-time and weekend programmes without authorisation.

In a letter dated September 17, 2025, and addressed to the President of IDTM, the Commission stressed that accredited academic programmes cannot be altered in their mode of delivery without explicit approval.

GTEC directed the institute to withdraw all admission letters issued under the unauthorised versions of the programmes, halt new enrolments, and submit evidence of compliance.

It further ordered IDTM to provide a comprehensive teach-out plan by October 17, 2025, to safeguard the interests of students already enrolled.

To ensure a smooth transition, the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have been tasked to supervise the implementation of the teach-out plan.

Both institutions have also been instructed to immediately terminate any collaborative admissions arrangements with IDTM.

The Commission warned that failure to comply with the directives would attract regulatory sanctions. The move underscores GTEC’s renewed efforts to tighten oversight of tertiary institutions and uphold academic standards across Ghana.
