The death toll from Monday’s fatal accident at Wakrom Junction near Yamoransa in the Central Region has risen to six.

The Central Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), ACFO II Merinder Mary Attigah-Mensah, confirmed the figure when she visited surviving victims at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

The victims were first rushed to the Biriwa Polyclinic before being transferred to the teaching hospital for further treatment.

The accident occurred on Monday, September 15, 2025, when a DAF truck, loaded with 700 bags of rice, collided with a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway.

According to the GNFS, its rescue team from the Central Regional Headquarters was dispatched to the scene at 2:59 p.m.

Rescuers extricated five victims from the wreckage, but four were later pronounced dead at the hospital. Another critically injured passenger is still receiving treatment.

Twelve other passengers had been rescued and sent to hospital by bystanders before the GNFS team arrived, but sadly, one later died on admission. The driver and mate of the DAF truck escaped unhurt.

In all, the crash has resulted in 17 casualties: six confirmed dead and 11 others injured but receiving treatment at the hospital.
