The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Kpandai, Haruna Karim, has cautioned the youth of the district against drug abuse and criminal activities such as theft, warning that offenders will face the full force of the law.
Speaking at the 2025 Kajogyi Yam Festival celebrated by the chiefs, elders, and residents of KojoBoni, a farming community in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region, Mr. Karim stressed that family ties or political affiliations would not shield anyone from punishment.
“I will not shield you as my family member or political ally if you are caught abusing drugs or stealing,” he declared. “You will be jailed.”
His remarks follow growing concerns about increasing youth involvement in drug-related activities and petty crimes across the district.
The DCE underscored the importance of discipline, hard work, and lawful conduct as the foundation for both personal progress and community development.
“No one is above the law. We are working hard to build a better Kpandai, and that requires a responsible youth population. If you choose crime, you choose prison,” he cautioned.
He further called on parents, traditional authorities, and opinion leaders to work with the Assembly in guiding the youth and reporting criminal behaviour without fear or favour.
Community members at the durbar welcomed the DCE’s firm stance, describing it as a timely message at a period when some young people are vulnerable to peer pressure and unemployment.
As part of broader measures to tackle the issue, Mr. Karim revealed that the district will soon roll out skills training and youth empowerment programmes aimed at reducing unemployment and crime.
The Kpandai District Assembly has also urged residents to remain law-abiding and support efforts to build a safe, productive, and united community.
