Nkwanta SHS teacher walks 60km for peace in Oti Region

52-Year-Old Teacher Walks from Nkwanta to Dambai in Peace Campaign

A 52-year-old teacher at Nkwanta South Senior High School in the Oti Region, Adzoe Kwame Atta Nutifafa, has staged a peace demonstration by walking from Nkwanta to Dambai to call for an end to the recurring conflict in the area.

Mr. Adzoe, who has taught in Nkwanta for several years, said he has seen the great potential of children in the region being undermined by violence.

“Enough is enough; the violence affecting the youth and innocent individuals must stop,” he declared.

The teacher walked 60 kilometres to present a petition to the Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong. The petition, received on his behalf by Regional Coordinating Director Rev. Harry Nii Kwatei Owoo, is expected to be forwarded to Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

In the petition, Mr. Adzoe called for safe access to schools, investment in infrastructure, deployment of qualified teachers, and the protection of children’s educational rights. He expressed concern that the conflict is discouraging many students from pursuing their education.

He added that, as a former teacher and a mother, the Vice President would appreciate the devastating impact of the conflict on children in Nkwanta.

Rev. Owoo assured that the Regional Minister is committed to promoting peace, stressing that lasting development can only thrive in an atmosphere of unity.

Paul Akonor of the National Peace Council also pledged the Council’s commitment to helping resolve the conflict, which he said is affecting the entire region.

Residents who witnessed Mr. Adzoe’s protest praised his courage but lamented the toll of the crisis on innocent children. They urged the Oti Regional House of Chiefs and the Peace Council to intensify efforts toward a permanent resolution.
