Mahama to launch ‘Big Push programme’ with road projects next week

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that government will next week break ground at three sites to officially commence the implementation of the ‘Big Push programme’.

Speaking at his first media encounter on Wednesday, September 10, the President said the initial phase of the initiative will focus heavily on road infrastructure, which he noted has deteriorated sharply over the past eight years.

According to him, nearly GH¢14 billion from Ghana’s oil and gold revenues has been earmarked this year to finance the programme.

Critical road projects such as the Ofankor and Sawambu roads, long stalled due to underfunding, have now been absorbed into the ‘Big Push’ framework.

He disclosed that close to GH¢1 billion has already been released to ensure the rapid completion of these projects by the end of the second quarter of 2025.

“The ‘Big Push programme’ is about transforming Ghana’s infrastructure base, starting with the road sector, to boost economic activity and improve the lives of our people,” Mahama said.
