GJA announces 2025 media awards to be hosted at Manhyia Palace

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has announced that this year’s annual media awards will be held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, marking the first time the event will take place outside Accra.

The awards, which celebrate excellence in journalism and recognise media organisations for their contributions to national development, have been hosted in Accra for the past 28 years.

GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, speaking during a meeting with President John Dramani Mahama on Friday, September 5, 2025, said the 29th edition of the awards will be hosted by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“The GJA award has been held in Accra for 28 years. This year, after consultations with key stakeholders, we have decided to move it to Kumasi, and I am excited to inform you that His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has agreed to host the ceremony at Manhyia,” Mr. Dwumfour stated.

Scheduled for late October or early November, the ceremony will honour journalists across categories including Health, Education, Sports, Entertainment, Investigative Journalism, Gender, Environment, and Science and Technology reporting.
