GHALCA Top 4: Bibiani GoldStars edge Hearts of Oak on penalties to stay unbeaten

Bibiani Gold Stars underlined their title credentials in the 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament after edging Hearts of Oak 5-4 on penalties in a pulsating clash at the University of Ghana Stadium on Friday night.

The reigning Ghana Premier League champions, who had opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Asante Kotoko on Wednesday, now top the standings with six points and remain favourites to lift the trophy on Sunday.

The Miners flew out of the blocks, taking the lead in the 20th minute when Samuel Atta Kumi converted from the penalty spot.

Justice Arthur added a second 15 minutes later with a close-range finish to put Gold Stars firmly in command.

Hearts, however, showed character to fight back. Rising talent George Paaku pulled one back before half-time, and just three minutes into the second half, Hussein Mohammed levelled the scores to set up a frenetic contest.

Despite both sides creating chances, neither could find a winner in regulation time, forcing the tie into a penalty shootout.

Gold Stars held their nerve to claim a 5-4 victory, maintaining their flawless run in the competition.

The result strengthens Gold Stars’ grip at the top of the table, while Hearts of Oak must now beat rivals Asante Kotoko in their final game to keep their chances alive.

On the same day, Gold Stars will face Heart of Lions in what could prove the tournament decider.
