Asuogyaman MP launches Ampem EduCamp to tackle BECE decline

The Asuogyaman District has launched a bold initiative to address its declining performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with the introduction of the Ampem EduCamp 2025, spearheaded by Member of Parliament and Deputy Finance Minister, Thomas Ampem Nyarko.

The two-week camp, hosted at the Akosombo International School, brought together 400 top-performing JHS 2 students for intensive coaching in core subjects.

Mr. Nyarko explained that the initiative, developed in collaboration with the district education directorate, seeks to sharpen students’ academic skills and boost overall performance.

Beyond the camp, the MP has also tackled infrastructure challenges by constructing and renovating school blocks across the district. District Education Director, Augustina Adwoa Owusu, described these interventions as crucial in enhancing the teaching and learning environment.

She noted that poor infrastructure and weak BECE results have long been pressing concerns but expressed optimism that with initiatives like the EduCamp, Asuogyaman could soon rank among Ghana’s best-performing districts.

Mr. Nyarko reaffirmed his commitment to bridging educational gaps, highlighting the EduCamp, mentorship sessions, and the distribution of over 2,000 exercise books, mathematical sets, and textbooks as part of a broader strategy to equip students for success.
