Current Black Stars lack competitiveness – Bernard Aryee

Bernard Aryee

Former Ghana international Bernard Aryee has expressed disappointment over the recent performances of the Black Stars, questioning the competitiveness and commitment of the current generation of players.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Fire for Fire, the former Hearts of Oak midfielder, who was part of Ghana’s bronze-winning team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, argued that today’s Black Stars lack the intensity that once defined the national team.

“The last time I had the chance to watch the Black Stars, it seemed there was no challenge among themselves. During our time, the competition was tough, so everyone gave their best,” Aryee said.

“I’m not seeing that fire among the current players. They don’t look serious. Individually, we have good players, but as a team, there is no spirit in it,” he added.

The Black Stars are expected to regroup next month as they prepare for their Matchday 7 and 8 fixtures of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali.
