Asantehemaa’s one-week observance comes off today

The one-week observation of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, will take place today, August 21, 2025, at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Mourners from across Ghana and beyond are expected to gather to pay their last respects to the Asantehemaa, who served the Ashanti Kingdom with dedication for eight years.

According to palace officials, the solemn ceremony will follow traditional Asante customs, with chiefs, queen mothers, government officials, and members of the public expected to attend in mourning attire.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, celebrated for her wisdom, compassion, and commitment to preserving Ashanti traditions, passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 98.

Her passing has been described as a “great loss” to both the Ashanti Kingdom and the nation.
