Traders at the Sunyani Wednesday Market have expressed concern over unbearable conditions caused by the continuous flow of human waste from a leaking septic tank at a nearby public toilet.
The overflowing waste has seeped into a gutter running through the trading area, leaving the market engulfed in a foul stench. Traders say the situation poses severe health risks and is making business increasingly difficult.
Speaking on Nimde3 FM, some traders appealed for urgent intervention, explaining that the septic tank, reportedly full for months, has been left unattended.
The caretaker of the facility told host Nana Asare Bediako on M’akosem that the problem has persisted since the change of government from the NPP to the NDC, adding that little could be done without official action.
Attempts to reach the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the Bono Region were unsuccessful, and the Sunyani Municipal Assembly has yet to comment.
Traders remain hopeful that authorities will act swiftly to prevent any potential outbreak of disease.
