The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging that Brigadier General Michael Opoku was arrested by security operatives for possessing ammunition.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the GAF clarified that Brigadier General Opoku remains an active member of the Armed Forces and is not under arrest for any crime.
The statement emphasized that no security or investigative agency has corroborated the claim of his arrest.
The Armed Forces assured the public that any military officer found culpable of criminal activity would face the same legal processes as any citizen.
“The story is false and should be ignored. We urge the public to refrain from spreading misinformation and disinformation,” the statement signed by Captain (GN) V.A. Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, said.
