Tension in Anlo robbing generations of development – TDC MD tells traditional authorities

The Managing Director of TDC Ghana Ltd., Courage Nunekpeku, has raised concerns over ongoing chieftaincy disputes and simmering tensions in Anlo, Volta Region, warning that they threaten the area’s development and the future of its younger generations.

Expressing deep concern over the lack of peace and unity, Mr. Nunekpeku cautioned that the prolonged discord is undermining progress.

“I’m particularly concerned about the peace of the Anloga State. I know Avadada and his team are doing a lot, but let’s do more. Sometimes the news from the area, the court cases and other disputes aren’t helping. Development can only take place where there is peace, and this must be the mentality of the youth,” he stated.

The remarks came during a courtesy visit by a delegation of traditional leaders from Anlo to Tema, congratulating Mr. Nunekpeku on his appointment on behalf of the Awomefia of Anlo, Togbi Sri III, and inviting him to this year’s Hogbetsotso Festival.

The delegation also emphasised the role of traditional leadership in national development, urging him to continue uplifting his name, his hometown, and the Anlo State.

Responding, the Avadada of Anlo, Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, traced current tensions to historical setbacks that weakened the once-powerful Anlo State Council, which governed 36 settlements.

He noted that during the colonial era, Anlo was sidelined in the elevation of chiefs to paramountcy, leaving the state with only one paramount chief for decades, allowing external influences to deepen internal divisions.

He stressed that unity is crucial for influence, strength, and progress. “Without cohesion, Anlo risks losing its capacity to assert itself and advance its development agenda.

Strength comes from solidarity and a shared vision,” Togbi Awusu II said, urging Mr. Nunekpeku to help resolve internal disputes and ensure lasting peace and prosperity for the state.
