Former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has revealed the devastating emotional and physical toll the recent military helicopter crash has had on him.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the Policy Advisor to the Vice President disclosed that the grief has been so intense that within just one week, he has lost five kilograms.
“I stood on a measuring scale on Wednesday and realised that just within a week, I had lost five kg. That is how badly the news of the victims has affected me,” he said.
According to him, the tragedy has hit particularly hard because he shared a close bond with most of the victims.
“I can’t even sleep. When I hear a dirge being played, my heart beats faster, and I begin to shake,” he recounted.
He revealed that after speaking to someone about his condition, he was advised to avoid television and radio to protect his mental health.
“The grief and pain from their death have taken a great toll on me, and I feel it deeply within,” he added.
The helicopter crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, claimed the lives of eight people, including senior government officials and military personnel.
Following days of national mourning and wreath-laying ceremonies, a state burial will be held in their honour on Friday, August 15, 2025.
