Ghana forward Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer has opened up about his botched summer move to French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice, revealing that medical concerns raised by the club ultimately killed the deal.
The 23-year-old was close to sealing the transfer before Nice pulled out, citing unspecified health issues. Speaking to Hamburger SV’s media, Konigsdorffer said he was stunned by the findings, stressing that he has barely missed a match in recent years.
“I was more surprised than anything, as I’ve missed almost no games for HSV in the last three years,” he said. “The tests I did claimed there were some issues, and I debated them with the staff at the club. In the end, no common ground could be reached, and I had to accept their opinions.”
While admitting it was a missed opportunity to play abroad, the Black Stars striker said he has moved on and is fully focused on the new season with HSV.
“It was a big chance for me to play abroad; however, it was not meant to be. I just have to accept this and move on. Everyone is pleased that I am back, and everything is the same as it was before,” he added.
Konigsdorffer is expected to feature in HSV’s DFB Pokal tie against Pirmasens before their Bundesliga opener against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
