The National Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly criticised the Ghana Police Service over the arrest of TikTok personalities Fante Comedy and AY, as well as social media activist Sir-Obama Pokuase.
In a statement signed by National Youth Organizer Salam Mustapha, the group expressed “disdain” at what it described as the waste of police resources to detain young people over comments deemed unsuitable.
The NPP Youth Wing argued that the remarks, though possibly unsavoury, posed no harm and fell within the bounds of free speech.
The statement accused the police of bias and intolerance towards individuals perceived to be aligned with the NPP, while overlooking reckless statements by opposition activists.
It also questioned the integrity of the police service, suggesting that the arrests were politically motivated.
The Youth Wing demanded the unconditional and immediate release of the three individuals, describing the arrests as an affront to democratic principles.
