The Ghana National Association of Garment Makers (GNAGM) has marked the successful completion of the Improving Access to Finance training for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
The training was supported by the German Development Corporation (GIZ) under the Support to the Private and Financial Sector (PFS) Programme.
A total of 778 GNAGM members participated in the exercise, which formed part of a broader initiative that trained 2,909 MSMEs from 13 trade associations across the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions.
Designed with inclusivity in mind, the training featured 54% women, 46% men, 17.4% persons with disabilities, and 26.7% young entrepreneurs aged 15 to 35.
Impact of the Training
The ceremony highlighted the impact of the intervention with a presentation of certificates to graduates.
Some participants shared how the training improved their understanding of saving small amounts to expand their businesses, better manage finances, and access credit from financial institutions.
Others also revealed that they were able to open accounts and begin saving, thanks to insights gained from the programme.
The initiative aligns with Ghana’s national development priorities and Germany’s 2030 Agenda for Reform, promoting inclusive private sector growth, financial resilience, poverty reduction, women’s economic empowerment, and job creation.
GIZ Ghana continues to collaborate with financial institutions, regulators, and trade associations to create an enabling environment for MSMEs to thrive.
