The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has revealed that an Air Force helicopter, Z9, en route to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, is currently off the radar.
In a statement, GAF explained that the helicopter took off from Accra at 9:12 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
According to the statement, there were three crew members and five passengers on board.
This comes just hours after a helicopter crashed at Adansi Akrofuom while heading to Obuasi. The aircraft was burnt beyond recognition, with no visible sign of survivors at the scene.
Preliminary information suggests the helicopter crashed into a tree under circumstances yet to be determined.
Although GAF did not categorically confirm or deny ownership of the crashed aircraft, it noted that efforts are currently underway to establish contact with the missing helicopter.
