Minority demands Sam George, MultiChoice summoned over DStv pricing

The Minority in Parliament is calling for the Communications Minister, Sam George, and officials of MultiChoice Ghana to be summoned over what they describe as the unfair pricing of DStv subscription packages in Ghana.

In a statement, the Minority expressed concern over the growing public outcry regarding the high cost of DStv services in Ghana, especially when compared to other countries in the sub-region.

They noted that the grievances raised by citizens are legitimate and must be addressed urgently.

While acknowledging the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation’s intervention, the Minority insists that Parliament must play a more active role in ensuring fairness and transparency in the pricing of pay-TV services.

They have therefore formally written to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Communications, requesting that both the sector minister and representatives of MultiChoice Ghana appear before the Committee to explain the current pricing structure.

According to the Minority, the engagement will offer Parliament the opportunity to scrutinize the basis of DStv’s pricing formula in Ghana, ensure the National Communications Authority (NCA) is fulfilling its consumer protection role, while pushing for a fair outcome that protects the Ghanaian consumer without undermining investor confidence.

The Minority further urged an end to the ongoing media exchanges and called for dialogue grounded in law and diplomacy.
