Four people have been confirmed dead and at least ten others seriously injured following a violent clash linked to a long-standing chieftaincy dispute at Agona Abodom in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region.
The violence reportedly broke out when alleged land guards stormed the community during the celebration of the Akwanbo Festival, leading to chaos and destruction.
Eyewitnesses say the attackers caused significant damage to property, including two vehicles, household items, and furniture at the chief’s palace.
Agona Abodom, a predominantly farming community, has endured over four decades of chieftaincy disagreements.
Earlier this year, the community installed a chief in an attempt to resolve the impasse.
However, tensions appear to have resurfaced.
Speaking to Adom News, an eyewitness, Kwame Arhin, confirmed that three people were initially reported dead, with many others critically injured.

Authorities have since confirmed the death toll has risen to four.
Residents say they are living in fear and have called for urgent intervention by the police and military to restore peace and ensure their safety.

Assembly Member for the Agona Abodom Electoral Area, Alex Donkor, also expressed grave concern about the escalating situation.
“The security situation is getting out of hand. We urgently need more personnel to maintain peace and order,” he said.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
