A journalist with JoyNews, Carlos Calony, has been detained by National Security operatives while covering the demolition of a warehouse owned by businessman Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan.
The incident occurred on the Spintex Road in Accra on Wednesday, July 30.
The warehouse, owned by the renowned Ghanaian businessman and Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, was allegedly demolished late Monday night by National Security personnel.
The structure, located next to Action Chapel, was reportedly torn down around 7:00 p.m., with several excavators involved in the operation, according to eyewitnesses.
Though still under construction and unoccupied, some construction workers residing on-site witnessed the demolition firsthand.
Mr. Calony was at the scene documenting the exercise and the growing tensions between civilians and uniformed men believed to be military personnel.
The exact circumstances surrounding his detention remain unclear.
It is still unknown what triggered the confrontation, but the development has raised fresh concerns about the safety of journalists in the line of duty in Ghana.
