The Ghana TVET Service is appealing to industries to partner with government in strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to better prepare young people for the job market.
Director for Training, Assessment and Quality Assurance, Samuel Debrah, made the call on behalf of the Director-General of the Service during the maiden graduation ceremony of the Yamfo Technical Institute in the Ahafo Region.
A total of 621 students graduated from the institute.
Speaking to Adom News, Mr. Debrah emphasised that the country’s ability to reduce youth unemployment hinges on the effectiveness of TVET.
He noted that industries have a critical role to play in supporting students and institutions to deliver quality training.
According to him, the TVET Service is collaborating with industry stakeholders to design curricula that align with labour market demands, ensuring that students graduate with relevant, in-demand skills.
He further urged companies to offer internship opportunities to help students gain hands-on experience.
Meanwhile, Principal of Yamfo Technical Institute, Philip Effah Atakorah, advised the graduates to exhibit good character as they enter the world of work.
He encouraged them not to be disheartened by low starting salaries, assuring that with commitment and hard work, they would eventually enjoy fulfilling and well-paying careers.
