Justin Kodua accuses NDC of fueling surge in illegal mining

General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua

The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of presiding over a dramatic surge in illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, in recent months.

Addressing a press conference at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, Mr. Kodua claimed that the scale of environmental destruction under the current NDC administration is unprecedented.

“What we are witnessing in the last six, seven months of the NDC government is unprecedented,” he said.

He further alleged that individuals affiliated with the NDC, including party executives and members, are actively engaged in illegal mining operations.

“The manner in which people associated with the NDC—party executives and members—are freely entering our forest reserves and water bodies to engage in galamsey is alarming,” Mr. Kodua stated.

He challenged the NDC to demonstrate transparency and take urgent steps to address the environmental degradation, urging Ghanaians to hold the government accountable for its inaction on the crisis.
