15 feared dead, 4 injured in accident on Juaso-Nkawkaw Highway

A tragic accident on the Juaso-Nkawkaw stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway has claimed the lives of 15 members of the Obogu Saviour Church youth group, leaving four others with serious injuries.

The incident, which occurred around 3 p.m. on Monday, involved a fuel tanker and a Ford Transit that was transporting the church members.

Eyewitnesses reported that a tyre on the fuel tanker, which was heading towards Accra, burst—causing the vehicle to swerve off its lane and collide with the Ford travelling in the opposite direction.

Confirming the tragedy, church elder Kofi Baah told Adom News that the group was returning from a youth event when the crash happened.

“We rushed to the Yawkwei Steward Hospital after hearing the news, only to find out our beloved members had passed away,” Mr. Baah recounted in deep sorrow.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue.

Personnel from the Juaso Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD), the Ambulance Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service in Konongo and Juaso responded promptly to the scene to assist with rescue efforts and clear the wreckage.
