The Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga, Nurideen Muhammed Mumuni, has urged security agencies to act swiftly following the tragic killing of two students at Nalerigu Senior High School (SHS).
Speaking to Accra-based Channel One TV, the MP described the incident as “deeply disturbing” and called for a prompt and thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
“This incident at Nalerigu Senior High School demands a thorough investigation, and the security agencies must rise to the occasion and ensure those responsible are brought to justice,” he stated.
The two students were reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen on the night of Saturday, July 26, in what many suspect was a targeted attack on the school compound.
Although the motive is yet to be confirmed, some local sources have linked the attack to the ongoing Bawku chieftaincy conflict, which has fueled unrest in the region.
The killings have sparked fear and anxiety among both students and residents of Nalerigu. In response, the government has imposed a temporary curfew from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to help restore calm.
Confirming the tragedy, the Headmaster of Nalerigu SHS, Mohammed Tibila, said the students were indeed attacked on the school premises.
The bodies of the victims have since been released to their families for burial.
The incident has renewed calls for heightened security in the area, with many urging authorities to step up efforts to prevent further bloodshed.
