Black Queens return home Monday after WAFCON bronze triumph

Ghana’s Black Queens are set to arrive home on Monday, July 28, following their impressive bronze-medal finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The team, made up of players and technical staff, is expected to touch down at Kotoka International Airport at 5:00 a.m. via Royal Air Maroc.

Led by head coach Kim Lars Björkegren and captain Portia Boakye, the Black Queens put up a spirited performance throughout the tournament.

After an impressive run in the group stage, Ghana narrowly missed a spot in the final, losing on penalties to host nation Morocco in a dramatic semifinal clash.

The Queens, however, bounced back with grit and determination, defeating defending champions South Africa in another penalty shootout to claim third place.

This marks Ghana’s first WAFCON medal in over a decade, ending a long wait for continental silverware.

The team’s resilience and unity have drawn widespread praise, with a rousing welcome expected from fans and officials when they return to Accra.
