The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that nominations for its upcoming parliamentary primaries in the Akwatia Constituency, Eastern Region, will officially open on Sunday, July 28.

This was contained in a statement signed by the General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, on July 25, 2025.

The party detailed the procedures for the primaries and emphasised the need for full compliance from all aspirants and stakeholders.

As part of efforts to promote inclusion and gender equality, the NDC has approved a 50% reduction in filing fees for female aspirants and persons living with disabilities (PWDs).

Nomination forms will be available at the party’s Eastern Regional Office and must be submitted there upon completion.

Aspirants will be granted access to the delegates’ list only after verification of payment of the full filing fee.

“All payments must be made directly into the party’s official account at UMB Bank, Adabraka Branch,” the statement noted, adding that cheques and bankers’ drafts will not be accepted.

The party reiterated its commitment to fairness and inclusivity in the internal election process and urged all aspirants to conduct their campaigns with decorum and respect.

“The party expects all aspirants to operate in the spirit of decency and fairness, upholding the democratic values of the NDC,” the statement concluded.

The by-election has become necessary following the passing of Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi, on Monday, July 7, 2025.

Meanwhile, barring any last-minute changes, the NDC has scheduled the election for Monday, August 4, 2025.
