Police rescue 16 scam victims in Peace Town

The Amanfro District Police Command has rescued sixteen foreign nationals believed to have been lured into a suspected Qnet scam under the guise of securing job opportunities.

The victims — 12 males and four females — were found in a private apartment at Peace Town, a suburb of Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

According to police sources, the individuals are nationals of Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire.

Speaking to Adom News, Abdul Baky, a relative of one of the victims, revealed that the recruiter allegedly charged between GH¢60,000 and GH¢80,000, claiming the amount would guarantee them legitimate employment in Ghana.

He further disclosed that the suspect took GH¢60,000 from his brother-in-law under the pretense of helping him secure a football career.

“He was promised a football team to play for, but after paying the money, he ended up locked in a room doing nothing,” Baky lamented.

Amanfro District Crime Officer, ASP Bright Amanfo, confirmed the arrest of the suspect. He said authorities are working closely with the Ghana Immigration Service to facilitate the repatriation of the victims.
