Six arrested, 54 rescued in recruitment scam at Effutu

The Winneba Divisional Police Command has arrested six individuals linked to a recruitment scam that defrauded dozens of job seekers in Effutu, Central Region.

The suspects allegedly posed as representatives of an “independent distributor of Neo Life Company Limited,” luring victims with fake job offers and extorting money from them under false pretenses.

Speaking to Adom News, Divisional Crime Officer ASP George Quainoo confirmed that 54 victims—15 Nigerians and 39 Ghanaians—were rescued during the operation.

“These individuals were moving around the Winneba township distributing cards and promoting non-existent job opportunities, primarily targeting unemployed youth,” ASP Quainoo said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the scheme was led by a Nigerian national, Oladokun Kehinde, who claimed ownership of the bogus company. He was arrested without a valid work permit and is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

Police have urged the public to be cautious and report any suspicious recruitment activities to help combat the rise in job-related scams.
