Kaywa finally reveals why Lasmid left Highly Spiritual Music

Music producer and sound engineer David Kojo Kyei, popularly known as Kaywa, has for the first time addressed the circumstances that led to the end of his professional relationship with singer Lasmid after the latter’s MTN Hitmaker victory.

Speaking on Afternoon Ride with Andy Dosty on Hitz 103.9 FM, Kaywa revealed that he signed Lasmid on a one-year contract immediately after the competition. According to him, the young artiste was enthusiastic and committed in the early days of his career.

“We did one year when he won MTN Hitmaker. MTN gave him to me. We signed a one-year contract, and even after the contract ended, he was always in the studio. He stayed around consistently. I took care of him, fed him. He later asked me to put him back on the label,” Kaywa stated.

Kaywa noted that he agreed to reinvest in Lasmid and even recorded six songs with him in preparation for a potential return to the label. However, he disclosed that some artistes on his Highly Spiritual Music label were uncomfortable with the idea of Lasmid coming back, citing limited financial resources to support everyone equally.

Despite the internal concerns, Kaywa said he remained confident in Lasmid’s potential and was willing to support his career.

In a separate interview on Daybreak Hitz with Kwame Dadzie, Lasmid referred to Kaywa as “my godfather” and stressed that “we are cool.”

Asked about the ownership of his songs, Lasmid declined to comment, suggesting it was a matter for his management.

Lasmid has since moved on and is currently collaborating with Nigerian artiste TML on an upcoming EP titled Sweet Songs for You.
