A member of the Small-Scale Miners Association, Christopher Asiedu, has expressed concerns that the price set by the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) in the purchase of gold in Ghana is too low, causing their businesses to collapse.
According to him, before the establishment of the Goldbod, the price of 1 GRAMG gold was between GH¢12,000 and GH¢15,000, but the Board is currently buying it at around GH¢8,000.
He is calling on the government to increase the price to at least GH¢11,000 to enable the miners to employ more people.
“If you want to buy our gold, please give us a good price. If you take it outside, it’s selling for GH¢12,000 to GH¢13,000, but you’re buying it at GH¢8,000. That’s a difference of GH¢4,000, which is too much,” Asiedu stated.
Speaking to Adom News, he emphasized that small-scale mining could help the Gold Board achieve its objectives, but the current price is crippling their operations.
