The Ghana Police Service has interdicted an officer captured in a viral video assaulting a reporter during the ongoing parliamentary election rerun at Ablekuma North.
Recounting his experience during an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the journalist said he was carrying out his duties when a police inspector suddenly instructed him to leave the premises.
He noted that several other journalists were present in the same area, and he was surprised to be singled out by the officer.
“I even showed him my ID card to prove that I am a journalist, justifying why I couldn’t leave — then he slapped me,” the reporter recounted.
In a press release dated July 11, 2025, the Police said the officer has been withdrawn from election duty and referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for investigation as part of internal disciplinary procedures.
The Service assured the public of a thorough probe into the incident and promised to provide further updates in due course.
