Beninese-French music icon Angélique Kidjo has been named among the prestigious Class of 2026 to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, becoming the first African artiste to earn this honour.
Kidjo is one of just nine global recording artists selected this year, and among six Grammy Award winners in the lineup, which includes Miley Cyrus, Lyle Lovett, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, The Clark Sisters, and Intocable.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, July 2, during a live press conference held at Ovation Hollywood.
Renowned as one of Africa’s most decorated musicians, Kidjo’s inclusion marks a monumental moment for African representation on one of entertainment’s most iconic landmarks.
She joins a diverse group of global honorees, including British actress Emily Blunt, Indian actress Deepika Padukone, French actress Marion Cotillard, Canadian actress Rachel McAdams, Filipino singer Lea Salonga, Brazilian percussionist Paulinho da Costa, and Australian pop duo Air Supply.
The 2026 Walk of Fame honorees were selected from hundreds of nominees by the Walk of Fame Selection Panel of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and later approved by the Chamber’s Board of Directors.
Peter Roth, chairman of the selection committee and former CEO of Warner Bros. Television, said:
“These talented individuals have made significant contributions to the world of entertainment, and we are thrilled to honour them with this well-deserved recognition.”
Official dates for the star ceremonies are yet to be announced, but honorees have two years to schedule their inductions.
Kidjo’s historic milestone is expected to inspire a new wave of African creatives pushing boundaries in global entertainment.
