2026 WC: Stay focused – Gideon Mensah to Black Stars

-

Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah has urged his teammates to remain focused as Ghana pushes to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars currently lead Group I with 15 points after six matches in the qualifiers. Their campaign received a major boost following successive victories over Chad and Madagascar.

The team is scheduled to return to action in September with Matchday 7 and 8 fixtures against Chad and Mali, before concluding their qualification journey in October with matches against the Central African Republic and Comoros.

Mensah, who plays his club football for French side AJ Auxerre, believes the squad doesn’t require significant tactical changes but rather a shift in mindset.

“We [Black Stars] don’t have to change a lot for the remaining World Cup qualifiers,” he told Sporty FM.

“We just need a change in mentality towards the games that are remaining,” he added.

Ghana is aiming to make a fifth World Cup appearance, having previously featured at the global showpiece in 2006 (Germany), 2010 (South Africa), 2014 (Brazil), and 2022 (Qatar).
