Richard Ofori rules out retirement, eyes strong future with AmaZulu

Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori has dismissed any thoughts of retirement, expressing his continued passion for the game and firm commitment to AmaZulu FC.

The 31-year-old former Orlando Pirates shot-stopper enjoyed a solid campaign in the recently concluded South African Betway Premier League, where he kept nine clean sheets in 22 appearances. His consistent performances earned him the starting role ahead of Veli Mothwa.

In an interview with KICK OFF, Ofori made it clear that stepping away from football is not on his radar anytime soon.

“I’m thinking about it [retirement] in a sense of planning ahead, you know. But not in terms of I’m thinking of retiring soon—no. I think for a goalkeeper, I still have many playing years in me,” he said.

Ofori, who joined AmaZulu last season, praised the club’s atmosphere and ambition, calling it a “beautiful family.”

“I’ve recently joined this beautiful family at AmaZulu, and it’s a big team with big ambitions. It’s an awesome environment and a great family.

“The team is good—the players, the management, everyone is loving. So, I am enjoying my football.

“I’m working hard to help the team achieve these ambitions and fulfil what we believe is the team

The former Wa All Stars goalkeeper is determined to help AmaZulu improve on their sixth-place finish last season, with hopes of breaking into the top four in the 2025/26 campaign and returning to continental competition.

Ofori has not featured for the Black Stars since Ghana’s early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, where the team failed to progress beyond the group stage.
