Africa World Airlines (AWA) has officially inaugurated a new flight route linking Accra, Ghana, to Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso.

The launch ceremony was held on Friday, June 20, at the Palms by Eagles Hotel, located in Airport City, Accra.

Speaking at the event, AWA’s Head of Safety, Andrew Asante Amankwah, assured attendees of the airline’s unwavering commitment to passenger safety across all its operations, including the newly introduced route.

“I am pleased to assure our passengers and potential passengers that our new route is safe for everyone, just like all our routes,” he stated.

Also present was Burkina Faso’s Ambassador to Ghana, David Kabre, who praised the move as a significant boost to Ghana–Burkina Faso relations.

He emphasized the route’s potential to enhance economic ties and cross-border business.

“This new route comes at a perfect time for Ghana-Burkina Faso relations. It will help accelerate business growth between both countries,” he said. He also acknowledged former President John Mahama for playing a key role in facilitating the initiative.”

AWA Vice President Andy Zhang expressed pride in the airline’s journey and was hopeful about the opportunities this new route could unlock.

“Since our launch, we’ve served over five million passengers and earned the trust of the public. This milestone couldn’t have been achieved without the support of Ghana,” he said. “We hope this new route will unlock more business opportunities between Ghana and Burkina Faso.”

The Accra–Ouagadougou route will operate three times weekly—on Tuesday mornings, Thursdays, and Sundays. Flights will depart Accra at 10:10 a.m. and return from Ouagadougou at 12:30 p.m.
