If there’s one thing Michael Boateng, popularly known as Mike 2, knows better than entertainment, it’s hustle.
From the barbershop chair to the radio console, the journey of this gritty Ghanaian entertainment journalist is as bold, unfiltered, and surprising as the headlines he’s known for chasing.
Born in Abetifi-Kwahu in the Eastern Region to the late Samuel Bright Boateng and Esther Boatemaa, Mike 2 grew up with big dreams and very little else.
“I didn’t come from much,” he says. “But I had a vision and no excuse was strong enough to stop me.”
Before the microphone ever found his voice, Mike 2’s days were filled with cuts and curves as he took up barbering during the day and driving a taxi at night, to fund his education and survive.
A business student at Abetifi Technical Senior High School, he had dreams of being a radio DJ, but his grandmother had other plans – she wanted a typist but radio eventually won.
His nickname “Mike 2” was born in high school and stuck like glue, becoming synonymous with one of Ghana’s most spirited voices in entertainment journalism.
Mike 2 didn’t wait for opportunities; he created them.

He enrolled in media school and began his professional journey as an intern at GBC Sunrise FM in Koforidua in 2003.
There, he met influential media personalities like Prince Tsegah and Bismark Brown, who mentored him and helped shape his path.
From GBC, he moved to Obuoba FM in Nkawkaw as a Drive Time host from 2005 to 2010.
Though the salary left much to be desired, the hunger to rise never faded.
In a bold move, he pitched himself to The New Crusading Guide and became the paper’s Eastern Regional Correspondent.
In 2014, Mike 2 made what he calls a “God-led move” to Multimedia’s Adom FM in Accra.

With a little faith and a lot of confidence, he walked into the studios, introduced himself, and pitched his talents to the then-Programmes Manager, Nana Appiah Nti.
He got a shot and didn’t miss.
After producing, guest-hosting, and showing his range, he eventually took over the station’s Entertainment programme and has never looked back.
His voice is now a staple on Ghanaian airwaves, dishing out entertainment news with a flair that’s equal parts bold, controversial, and captivating.
Behind the fast-paced life is a man deeply rooted in family and faith.
Mike 2 is the last of 15 siblings, a proud father of five boys, and a devout member of the Church of Pentecost.
His wife, Eva Boateng, is his biggest cheerleader.
When he’s not working, Mike 2 is eating fufu. “I can eat fufu from Monday to Monday,” he laughs. It’s the one thing he loves as much as controversy and trust us, he loves controversy.
Mike 2 isn’t just about the street smarts; he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a Master’s in Development Communication.
He’s currently eyeing a Law degree to sharpen his ability to understand, question, and challenge public discourse because for him, radio is not just talk. It’s a transformation.

“Hard work pays. Be honest. Be truthful. And when the mic is yours, show up, speak up, and never let your past limit your future.”
From cutting hair to cutting through media noise, Michael Boateng a.k.a. Mike 2 is proof that hustle, humility, and a heavy dose of self-belief can take you anywhere, even to the top of the dial.
