Residents of Ejisu Municipality in the Ashanti Region experienced a power outage on Wednesday, June 11, after a snake reportedly entered the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) substation at Kwaso.
According to a report by Citi News, the snake made contact between a feeder and the ground, triggering an automatic shutdown of the Akyawkrom 2 feeder line.
The ECG’s emergency team responded swiftly and restored power shortly after the incident.
ECG’s Ashanti Sub-Transmission Public Relations Officer, Collins Manu, noted that wildlife continues to pose challenges to power infrastructure.
“Wildlife, especially snakes and birds, continue to pose real threats to grid reliability,” he said.
He added that the company is taking proactive steps by installing snake guards, sealing cable entry points, clearing vegetation, and improving drainage systems to keep animals out of substations.
The General Manager of Ashanti Sub-Transmission, Ing. Peter K. Fletcher, also urged the public to report any unusual activity around power facilities to help protect infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted supply.
