Fans to enjoy legends clash ahead of 2024 MTN FA Cup final

Fans attending the 2024 MTN FA Cup final at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium are in for a treat, as the day’s action will begin with a special legends match between giants Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.

The much-anticipated curtain-raiser is scheduled for Sunday at 14:45 GMT.

The exhibition match will bring together some of Ghana’s most iconic football figures, promising a nostalgic and thrilling showcase of skill, flair, and experience.

Chairman of the FA Cup Committee, Wilson Arthur, confirmed the addition of the legends game during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, emphasising that the initiative is part of broader efforts to elevate the fan experience at this year’s final.

“This year’s final will be unforgettable,” Arthur said. “There will be a curtain-raiser between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak legends before the game kicks off. There will be a cultural display and other beautiful experiences for the fans.”

Some of the star names expected to feature include Charles Taylor, Eric Bekoe, Francis Akwafo, Emmanuel Armah, Eric Donkor, Amos Frimpong, Bernard Don Bortey, Sammy Adjei, Dan Quaye, Amankwah Mireku, Adjah Tetteh, Ablardey Morgan, Eric Nyarko, and Emmanuel Osei, among others.

Arthur also praised the achievements of the two finalists—Premier League powerhouse Asante Kotoko and underdogs Golden Kick FC.

He highlighted Golden Kick’s impressive campaign, calling them “giant killers” for their string of surprise victories en route to the final.

“Golden Kick were the giant killers in this year’s FA Cup and facing Asante Kotoko in the final, you can only expect a beautiful game,” he said. “I assure everyone that we are in to witness a good game.”

The final match between Asante Kotoko and Golden Kick FC will kick off at 17:00 GMT. The winner will secure Ghana’s slot in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.
