President John Dramani Mahama has made a passionate appeal to Ghana’s youth, particularly those from Zongo communities, to take full advantage of government-led initiatives designed to curb unemployment and promote socio-economic empowerment.
Speaking at the Eid al-Adha celebration held at the Black Star Square in Accra, President Mahama emphasized that national programmes such as the National Apprenticeship Programme and the Adwumawura Initiative have been strategically introduced to equip the youth with practical skills and entrepreneurial support needed to thrive in today’s competitive economy.
He added that the Adwumawura Programme is also available to help start business with capital and mentorship.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to bridging the development gap between Ghana’s urban centers and historically marginalized Zongo communities.
He announced a new Zongo Development Framework which will focus on infrastructure improvement, sanitation, healthcare, sports, and vocational training.
According to Mahama, the framework is part of a broader agenda to ensure no child is left behind, stating, “every Ghanaian child deserves a fair shot at success whether born in Nima or Airport Residential Area.”
The former president also encouraged continued peaceful coexistence among religious and ethnic groups, urging Muslims to uphold Ghana’s cherished values of unity and tolerance.
President Mahama’s call was both a rallying cry and a policy direction, challenging the youth to seize opportunities while reminding the nation of its responsibility to support them.
