Bawumia slams NDC over new ‘dumsor levy,’ warns Ghanaians of more taxes ahead

-

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has taken a swipe at the governing NDC for introducing a new fuel tax barely months after abolishing the controversial E-Levy, accusing the party of deceit and warning Ghanaians to prepare for more taxes.

Speaking in Cape Coast to wrap up his nationwide ‘Thank You Tour’ in the Central Region, Dr. Bawumia said the newly introduced GH₵1 “Dumsor Levy” on fuel contradicts the NDC’s 2024 campaign promise to reduce the tax burden on citizens.

“The NDC told many lies, and today Ghanaians are seeing them unfold. Last night, they introduced a Dumsor Levy after scrapping the E-Levy. This new levy is even worse,” Bawumia said.

He argued that the new tax is far more burdensome than the E-Levy.

“With the E-Levy, you paid GH₵10 on a GH₵1,000 mobile money transaction. But now, with the Dumsor Levy, buying GH₵1,000 worth of fuel comes with an GH₵83 tax.”

According to Bawumia, the NDC has broken its trust with voters and is likely to impose even more taxes in the coming years.

“By 2028, Ghanaians will realise they were misled. More taxes are coming,” he cautioned.

The former Vice President expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will return to power, saying, “When the time comes, Ghanaians will call on us to come back and manage the economy responsibly.”
