UTAG-UEW demands justice over murder of Professor Amedeker

The University Teachers Association of Ghana, University of Education, Winneba Chapter (UTAG-UEW), is calling for a thorough investigation and swift justice following the gruesome murder of Professor Mawuadem Koku Amedeker, whose body was found buried at his residence in Gyahadze, a suburb of Winneba.

In a statement released on Sunday, UTAG-UEW expressed shock and sorrow over the tragic loss, describing it as a devastating blow to the university community and the nation at large.

The Association extended heartfelt condolences to Prof. Amedeker’s family, students, and colleagues, and expressed gratitude for the support received from UTAG National and the National Executive Council.

While commending the Ghana Police Service for arresting one suspect and initiating investigations, UTAG-UEW urged law enforcement to intensify efforts to ensure all those involved in the crime are brought to justice.

“The tragic loss of Prof. Amedeker is a stark reminder of the urgent need for enhanced security and protection for members of the academic and Effutu communities,” the statement emphasized.

UTAG-UEW also called on the government, security agencies, and university authorities to collaborate in ensuring the safety and well-being of all staff and students.

The union pledged its full support for the ongoing investigations and vowed to uphold the ideals Professor Amedeker represented in his academic service.
