The Amasaman Circuit Court has sentenced a 21-year-old man to five years’ imprisonment with hard labour for stealing a Toyota Corolla S valued at GH¢140,000.00.

The convict, Baba Hardi, pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful entry and theft and was accordingly convicted and sentenced.

Police Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah told the court, presided over by Justice Enid Marful-Sau—a High Court judge with additional responsibility at the Circuit Court—that the complainant, Mr Emmanuel Gideon Debrah, is an Information Technology Specialist residing at Amasaman, behind the railway line.

He said Baba Hardi, who is unemployed, lives at Achiaman near Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the prosecution, on April 8, 2025, at about 5:30 a.m., Mr Debrah woke up to discover that the mesh of his window had been torn. A pair of trousers containing his car keys and GH¢150 had been stolen from his room.

Upon stepping outside, he realised that his ash-coloured Toyota Corolla S saloon car with registration number GT 3044-22, which had been parked in front of his house, had also been stolen.

He lodged a complaint with the Amasaman Police, who immediately issued a wireless message for the vehicle to be located.

Later that same day, officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) at the National Headquarters, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra, arrested Baba Hardi in possession of the stolen vehicle and a pair of scissors.

The prosecution said the convict had attempted to sell the car when he was apprehended. He was subsequently handed over to the Amasaman police and, during caution, admitted to the offence.

After investigations, he was charged and brought before the court for trial.
