The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has commissioned a four-storey, 24-unit residential facility for the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in the Savelugu Municipality of the Northern Region.
The facility, constructed by the State Housing Company (SHC), is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve the living conditions of security personnel nationwide.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Minister recalled that in 2016, the government, acting through the GIS, entered into an agreement with SHC for the construction of the building.
According to him, the primary objective was to provide decent accommodation for junior-ranked officers stationed at the Tamale International Airport.
Muntaka emphasized that the completion of the project stands as a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of security personnel and their families.
“It is our firm belief that when officers are well housed, they are better positioned to discharge their duties efficiently and effectively,” he added.
Muntaka, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Asawase, further commended SHC for the excellent work and extended gratitude to the chiefs and all stakeholders who contributed to making the vision a reality.
He also acknowledged the dedication and sacrifices of security personnel in safeguarding the nation’s borders and upholding national security.
The Acting Comptroller-General of GIS, Samuel Basintale Amadu, expressed appreciation to the government for addressing the Service’s accommodation challenges.
Meanwhile, as part of his working visit to the Northern Region, the Minister also cut sod for the construction of an additional 24-unit residential facility in Tamale.

He lauded the Ministry for its sustained support and highlighted the significant interest the government has shown in enhancing the operational capacity of the Service.

This new project will include enhanced amenities and is intended to cater specifically to the housing needs of senior officers stationed at the Tamale International Airport.
