Hearts of Oak Managing Director, Delali Anku-Adiamah, has appealed to fans of the club to remain patient as the team continues its rebuilding process.
The Phobians have endured a challenging 2024/25 campaign and are set to finish the season without silverware. Their FA Cup hopes ended in disappointment following a shock elimination by lower-tier side Golden Kick in the Round of 32.
In the Ghana Premier League, Hearts currently sit fifth on the table with 49 points from 31 games.
Despite the setbacks, Anku-Adiamah insists the club is laying the foundation for long-term success and that patience is essential during this transitional phase.
“Football is not that simple — it’s not just about recruitment or this or that. I think we are going through a period where we are rebuilding, and it will take time. If somebody tells you that he will come in and tomorrow change the club, it’s a lie. Even clubs with a lot of money, like Manchester United, are going through such a period — and they are still going through it,” he told Peace FM.
Anku-Adiamah emphasized the importance of stability and consistency.
“What Hearts of Oak needs is stability — a period where, yes, it might be painful and maybe we won’t win anything, but at least you will see progress every year. If last year we were fighting relegation, this year we are not. We are actually comfortable now; we were even fighting for the top at some point.”
He drew comparisons to legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, noting that it took him six years to win his first trophy at Manchester United.
“So again, we need to go through that painful period where we put things right — maybe with recruitment and how we operate. Then we will start to do well. Even Sir Alex took six years before he won at Manchester United. But when we say give us one or two years to rebuild, the patience is not always there — we understand.”
He concluded with a message to supporters:
“But what we do every year will show progress — from one step to the next. Fans, be patient. If you don’t go through that process, you’re trying to run before you’ve even crawled. Give us the time to go through these processes first, and you will see a much healthier club.”
The Phobians will look to extend their recent momentum when they face Accra Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night in their Matchday 32 clash.
